Over-the-counter pain medicines -- such as naproxen (Aleve) or ibuprofen (Motrin) -- generally work well to ease ovulation pain. A heating pad on your lower belly or  a warm bath may also help. If you have particularly painful ovulation, you might talk with your doctor about taking combination estrogen-progesterone birth control pills, which prevent ovulation.
