Recovery time varies depending on the type of surgery. Recovery from gastric banding usually takes at least 1 week, and with a gastric bypass, it is often up to 4 weeks.
Because of newer techniques, weight loss surgery can often be done with small surgical cuts. A few centers around the country even do weight loss surgery on an outpatient basis.
