If your blood pressure is consistently over 130/80, you have hypertension.

The top (systolic) number is the force in the arteries when your heart beats. The bottom (diastolic) one is the pressure between beats, when your heart rests.

If either number is higher than normal, it means your heart is pumping harder than it should. Studies show that that over time, that makes you more likely to have a stroke.
