There are two types :

  • Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the most common. It results from a blocked airway, usually when the soft tissue in the back of your throat collapses during sleep.
  • Central sleep apnea happens when your brain doesn't tell your muscles to breathe. This results from a problem in the part of your brain that controls breathing.
