While present in the pelvic re­gion, each kidney receives its arterial supply from the common iliac arteries. As the kidney ascends, it is progres­sively revascularized by a series of ar­terial sprouts from the dorsal aorta. As the cranial vessels develop, the caudal renal arteries involute and, disappear. When the kidneys reach their final posi­tion under the suprarenal glands, they receive their arterial supply via lateral branches of abdomina aorta, which
become the permanent renal arteries
