If you have heart disease, you may need to take special care with dental treatments. If you’ve had a stroke and are taking anticoagulants (blood-thinning drugs), tell your dentist. The drugs can make you bleed too much during oral surgery or other procedures.
If you don’t make as much saliva as before because of your stroke, your dentist may recommend artificial saliva. If you have trouble moving your hands or face muscles, you can practice good dental care with fluoride gels, new ways to brush and floss, mouth rinses, and other tools and strategies.
