In the digital world we live in, it can be easy to take for granted the many parts that make up those machines helping us deliver on our daily tasks here at Flood Marketing. Those machines we’re talking about, computers!
All our tasks, writing, social media, producing video, emailing, accounting, conferencing, designing… are all done on computers. Our devices must be able to hold an incredible amount of data to organize and protect our countless files, graphics, and documents. We also need these devices to work quickly so that no time is wasted in completing our work.
If we aren’t on our computers, we’re on our phones (also mini-computers). That’s just how we all function best. And if you’re reading this, we’re guessing you also use one. But do we know what power we hold in these machines? We do now!
Our Video Editor, Luke, dropped the knowledge on us all this week on how computers are pieced together. Your basic computer consists of seven major parts:
Motherboard
Processor/CPU
Power Supply
Hard Drive
PCI-Express Cards
Graphics Cards
RAM/Memory
The Motherboard is the central hub where all the pieces connect. Then of course you have your processor which is where all the “thinking” happens. Power Supply, is exactly what it sounds like – it’s what provides electricity and turns the computer on. The Hard Drive is like a storage unit; housing all the data and files. The PCI-Express Card adds extra ports so your computer can connect to other awesome machines forming one incredible super computer… OK we’re getting ahead of ourselves! Then you have your Graphics Cards, which “separate processor dedicated graphics” (we don’t know what this means either, that’s why we have Luke. You should get a Luke too!). Finally, the RAM is lightning-fast short-term memory.
Having once built a computer while blindfolded, Luke has become our go-to for technical questions in addition to his role as Video Editor. We now understand how these machines that we use pretty much every second of every day function, and why each component is so important for the many aspects of marketing.
