Media presents programmes on educational affairs and policies. Students get benefit from the lessons of Allama Iqbal Open University. Internet and Radio also play an important role in the progress of Education.
They were speaking at the Invention to Innovation Summit’s session “Role of media to promote science, technology and education,” held at Al-Razi Hall Punjab University here on Thursday.
They said the media marginalised education in its news and comment thus totally ignoring the dimensions of higher and science and technology education.
It also failed to link it with development of quality human resource in Pakistan and prosperity of the country itself.
Punjab Higher Education Commission chairman Dr Nizamuddin said the role of media to promote education was very important and educational institutions must not be obsessed with the media rather they should engage journalists in a constant positive dialogue.
PU Vice-Chancellor Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir said the role of media was very important in promotion of education in the country.
He said he was ensuring a merit-based policy in the varsity and making all out effort to bring it in the top 500 universities of the world.
Dr Shafique Jullandhry and assistant professor Shabbir Sarwar read out their papers about the role of media which it was playing in the promotion of education, science and technology and how this role could be enhanced and modified.
FLORAL ART: The Lahore College for Women University held the 5th annual floral art competition here on Thursday.
At least 50 students from different departments displayed their artistic work in the competition which was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Rukhsana Kausar.
Prof Kausar said the terrorism was the biggest threat to Pakistan as economic prosperity could thrive only in peace.
She appreciated the flower decoration by students, saying that flowers were symbol of peace and they had positive impact on thinking of a person.
