Both plants and animals take in oxygen and give our carbon dioxide when they respire. They use the oxygen to break down their food in order to obtain energy some animals, like humans, use their lungs to inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. Others breathe through their skin or white the helps of gills.
