Ans. SIMPLE HARMONIC MOTION (SHM)
To and fro oscillatory motion in which acceleration of the body is directly proportional to the displacement of the body from the mean position and is-always directed towards the mean position is known as simple harmonic motion.
Conditions for Simple Harmonic Motion
A body must fulfil the following two conditions in order to execute simple harmonic motion:
1. Acceleration of the body is directly proportional to its displacement.
2. Acceleration of the body is always directed towards the mean position. Mathematically, both conditions can be written as: a o c – x
