Hyperparathyroidism is when the calcium levels in your blood and tissues are too high.
Primary hyperparathyroidism mean your condition is caused by, or starts in, at least one of the parathyroid glands naturally making too much of the hormone that keeps your calcium levels in balance. If you have primary hyperparathyroidism, you usually won’t have any symptoms, or they’ll be mild. But if you do have severe symptoms, they might include:
- Constipation
- Nausea
- Throwing up
- Lack of hunger
- Confusion and forgetfulness
- Unusual thirst
- Frequent peeing
- Pain on one side of your lower belly (if you have kidney stones)
