The best way to avoid catching the flu is to get a flu shot or other vaccines. Every fall you should get vaccinated against new strains of the flu virus since the last outbreak. If you’re immunized against three or more strains, you may still get the flu. But your symptoms likely will be milder than without the flu shot.
