You can help avoid the flu if you:
- Wash your hands with soap and water, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer often.
- Quit smoking. The bad habit damages your respiratory tract. Limit alcohol. Both can make you more likely to catch infections.
- Avoid sleeping in a room with someone who has flu. The virus is easily spread in the air.
- Eat a healthy diet, drink plenty of fluids, and rest well to help your body fight off infections.
