The voltage chosen for the transmission of electrical power over large distances is many times greater than the voltage of the domestic supply. State two reasons why electrical power is transmitted at high voltage.

Ans.  The reasons for transmission of -high voltage are as under:
1. Sending power at high voltage would reduce the power loss in the form of heat dissipation i.e. I2Rt. For same power, high voltage means lower current and hence less power loss.
2. For same power, sending power at high voltage means low current. It means • we need thinner wires and also less number of repeater step-up transformers to send power over long destinations.
