Ischemic colitis is more common in people over age 60, but younger folks can get it too.

With this type of colitis, there isn’t enough blood flow to the large intestine (colon). That's because an artery that carries blood has been blocked or has narrowed.

You need blood in your colon because it has oxygen that keeps tissue alive. If the blockage goes on for too long, it can cause serious problems. But if you get treatment soon, you should heal quickly.
