Avoiding alcohol or sleeping pills may help. Drinking alcohol within several hours of going to sleep causes muscles near the airway to slacken. Sleeping pills or other sedatives and sedating medications such as antihistamines put you to sleep, but they relax your throat muscles, making your snoring worse.
