Hemangiomas are a type of birthmark you get when tiny blood vessels bunch together and raise off your baby’s skin. They usually go away on their own. Corticosteroid medication and selective beta-blockers can treat them. Lasers can stop them from growing, but may cause scarring. Surgery also can remove hemangiomas. Some treatments mix a combination of approaches.
