This skin condition most often happens when you’re pregnant or taking birth control pills and other hormones. It’s sometimes called the “pregnancy mask,” but men can have it, too. Melasma causes tan or brown patches on the cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin. It may go away after pregnancy. If not, prescription creams and some over-the-counter skin care products can treat it. Check with your doctor first. Sunlight will make melisma worse, so wear a sunscreen at all times.
