In this variety of joints the interzonal connective tissue becomes chondrified to form fibrocartilage. However, a layer of hyaline cartilage caps the bone surface on each side of the joint. Examples of such joints are the symphysis pubis and joints between vertebral bodies. The epiphysial cartilages are also regarded to constitute temporary cartilaginous joints between the bony masses of a growing long bone.
