Children grow to seual maturinty at differing rateds which are mostly genetically determined.Clinically, developmental maturity can be measured by determining bone age (osseous maturation). The bone age is usually determined by examining an'X-ray radiograph of the wrist and hand of the child. The status of ossification of various bones of this region gives useful information about the bone age of the child and a quantitative measure of maturity can be made by comparison with reference standards.
