During the 7th and 8th weeks the stomach undergoes changes in po­sition which include: (1) descent, and (2) rotation.
1) DESCENT. As mentioned earlier, the primordium of stomach ini­tially lies high up in the cervical region of the embryo. As the lungs begin to grow in the pleural cavities, the stom­ach descends from its initial position to its permanent location in the abdominal cavity. The cardiac end of the stomach migrates downwards through the fol­lowing vertebral levels: C2 (at 4 weeks), T2 (at 6 weeks), and T10 (at 8 weeks). By the 12th week the cardiac end lies at the level of T11, and the py-loric end is fixed at the level of L1.
