This type of ASD is much less common than the osteum secundum defect. In this anomaly there is defi­ciency of endocardial cushion tissue, so that the endocardial cushions par­tially fuse with each other and the sep­tum intermedium is poorly formed. The septum primum does not fuse with the septum intermedium and there is a patent osteum primum.
