In some people with Parkinson's disease, constipation may happen because the autonomic nervous system isn’t working right. That system controls smooth muscle activity. If it isn’t working right, the intestinal tract may operate slowly, causing constipation.
Also, medications used to treat Parkinson's disease (such as Artane and Cogentin) can cause constipation.
