About 3 out of 100 Americans over the age of 60 have Parkinson’s. Evidence is building that Parkinson's disease may be passed down in families. Some 4% of those with Parkinson's disease are diagnosed before age 50, and of those, about half are diagnosed before age 40. When the diagnosis is made early, it is referred to as "young-onset" Parkinson's disease.
