Most kids should get their vitamins and minerals from foods. If you do give them supplements, remember to:

  • Put vitamins away so kids don't treat them like candy.
  • Give your child a chewable vitamin after the meal. Fat-soluble vitamins (A,D, E, K) are absorbed only with food.
  • Ask your doctor about possible drug interactions if your child is on medication.
  • Try a chewable vitamin if your child won't take a pill or liquid supplement.
