Before babies learn to speak English, Chinese, Spanish, or any real language, they babble and coo. This play with sounds is called baby talk, and they sound similar the world over.
The first 3 years of life, when a baby's brain is growing quickly, are a critical stretch for learning to talk. During that time, you and your child will communicate through baby talk.
