Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) uses a computerized pump with a syringe that delivers pain medicine directly to your intravenous (IV) line. The pump can be set to give you a constant dose of drugs. Or you can press a button when you need pain relief.
Some people may get a PCA pump after surgery. It’s also used by people living with long-term pain.
