If you're having a bone mineral density test:
- Don’t take calcium supplements for 24 hours before the exam.
- Don't wear clothes with metal zippers, belts, or buttons.
- If you’ve had an injection of barium or contrast dye for a CT scan or MRI, wait 7 days before having a central DXA. The contrast dye could affect the test.
