Glucosamine may raise blood sugar, so be careful if you have diabetes. Check with your doctor if you take blood-thinning medication (anticoagulants) or if you're allergic to shellfish (since glucosamine in supplements comes from shellfish).

Glucosamine and chondroitin aren't recommended for children and women who are pregnant, nursing, or could become pregnant.
