The first symptom of a peritonsillar abscess is usually a sore throat. It can take 2-5 days before symptoms start to show:
- Swelling in mouth and throat
- Enlarged or tender lymph glands in the neck
- Painful or difficulty swallowing
- Fever and chills
- Spasm in the muscles of the jaw and neck
- Ear pain on the same side as the abscess
- A muffled voice
