Enamel is the translucent outer covering of the tooth. Enamel helps protect your teeth from daily use such as chewing, biting, crunching, and grinding. It sometimes can chip and crack. Enamel also insulates your teeth from painful temperatures and chemicals.

Enamel has no living cells. Unlike with broken bone that can heal, your body can’t repair chipped or cracked enamel.
