Too much fluoride can cause problems like enamel fluorosis in children. It can make their teeth discolored, pitted, and hard to keep clean.

Children may get too much fluoride through supplements, or they took fluoride supplements in addition to drinking fluoridated water. They’re also more likely to have enamel fluorosis if they swallow fluoride toothpaste.
