Some dentists use lasers to treat:
- Tooth decay. Lasers can remove decay within a tooth and prepare the surrounding enamel for the filling.
- Gum disease. Lasers reshape gums and remove bacteria during a root canal.
- Biopsy or lesion removal. Lasers can take tissue samples for cancer testing, or to remove mouth lesions from canker sores.
- Teeth whitening. Lasers are used to speed up in-office teeth whitening by “activating” a peroxide bleaching solution.
