Sodium forms chemical bond with chlorine because sodium has only one electron in its valence shell while chlorine has seven electrons in its valence shell sodium in electropositive in nature. so by losing its valence electron it attains noble gas electron configuration while chlorine in electronegative in nature gain an electron to become stable.
