An animal is placed in an apparatus where it re-breathes the same air continuously. Its breathing rate increases. Why?

Ans: As the animal breathes the quantity of carbon dioxide in apparatus increases and thus the rate of respiration of animal increases. Increase in level of CO2 in blood of the animal increases its breathing rate.
